We the undersigned petition the Council to repair the footpath along the north-east side of Stoneleigh Road from the junction of Kenilworth Road until the entrance to Woodfield School. This is an existing footpath that has been in a state of disrepair for some considerable time, which has caused flooding, forcing pedestrians to walk on the road.
We would also ask the council to construct a footpath for the entire length of Stoneleigh Road from Kenilworth Road up to the railway bridge, to ensure its safety for pedestrians, and wheelchair and pram users. Currently, residents do not feel safe to walk on the side of the road (verge) in these conditions and these modest measures would allow walking, running etc. in a safe way and segregate pedestrians from vehicular traffic on what is one of the main roads into Coventry and University of Warwick.
Due to the pandemic, more people are being encouraged to take up
active travel, which is why Stoneleigh Road’s major issue for
not having a usable footpath for majority of the road has been
highlighted. With the number of cases of resident who have fallen
severely due to not having a proper footpath, it is very important
that residents are given a sense of security when they do need go
outdoors. Particularly, during winter and autumn seasons, the
elderly residents or wheelchair users are forced to stay home and
feel extremely isolated.
