We are submitting this petition because parking on our street has reached a critical level of congestion, directly impacting the safety, accessibility, and well-being of the local community. Non-resident vehicles frequently occupy the majority of available spaces during the day and night. This leaves less than 40% of parking available for the residents who live here. This displacement is primarily caused by traffic from nearby commuters, shoppers, and businesses. As a result, residents face the following severe issues daily:
Access and Safety: Delivery drivers, emergency services, and waste collection vehicles frequently face obstructions and struggle to navigate or turn around on the street safely.
Vulnerable Residents: Elderly residents, disabled individuals, and parents with very young children are regularly forced to park far from their homes, creating safety hazards and severe inconvenience.
Traffic Displacement: The constant search for parking spaces by non-residents creates unnecessary traffic circulation, increasing localized air pollution and idling near our doorsteps.
We believe a targeted Residents' Parking Permit Scheme is the only viable, long-term solution to manage this demand fairly. It will restore the residential character of our street and ensure safer road conditions for all users. We are actively seeking the formal support of our local Ward Councillors for this initiative.
