Abercorn Road is home to All Souls Primary School and is used daily by young children, families, residents, and school staff. The road is frequently affected by:
- Vehicles exceeding the speed limit, particularly during school drop-off and pick-up times
- Dangerous and inconsiderate parking, including parking on pavements, near junctions, and across driveways
- Reduced visibility for pedestrians, especially children crossing the road
- Increased risk of accidents and near misses involving children and residents
Parents and residents have raised repeated concerns about the safety of children walking to and from All Souls Primary School. Many children are forced to step into the road due to blocked pavements, while speeding vehicles create an environment of constant danger and anxiety.
We respectfully ask Coventry City Council to:
- Investigate speeding on Abercorn Road, including traffic surveys and speed monitoring
- Introduce traffic-calming measures, such as speed humps, raised crossings, or chicanes
- Improve parking enforcement, particularly during school hours
- Review road signage and markings, including clearer school warning signs and parking restrictions
- Engage with local residents and the school to develop long-term safety solutions
The safety of children must be a priority. Preventative action now could avoid serious injury or loss of life in the future.
By signing this petition, we urge Coventry City Council to act swiftly to make Abercorn Road a safer place for children, residents, and all road users.
