Enable more mobile phone masts to be built across Coventry

We the undersigned petition the Council to give planning permission to telecoms companies seeking to build mobile phone masts across the city; and for the council to encourage contractors to submit more phone mast plans.

More people are using more mobile devices, yet our infrastructure remains stuck in the past. Mobile internet signal allows us to make important calls, use WhatsApp, check bus times, browse the internet and download emails. The rise of smart phones, smart homes, and connected devices means the demand for data is skyrocketing, with networks not keeping up. This leaves us with patchy coverage, slow speeds, and unreliable signal. The UK is only 51st in the world for mobile connectivity, and 22nd out of 25 European countries for 5G connectivity. The removal of 3G signal has only made the issue worse, as there are not enough 5G masts to give consistently good or even adequate connections across the city (and country).

We call on Coventry City Council, and local councillors, to not block future planning applications for mobile phone masts. Where masts are deemed 'unsightly', we call for them to still be installed, near to existing 'unsightly' infrastructure e.g. bus stops, lamp posts.

Coventry is a leading city for technology use e.g. with electric cars; it deserves good mobile data connection too. This will improve local economies, communities, and efficiency.
