Improve access to Coventry Market after disruptions from surrounding redevelopment (CCS)

We the undersigned petition the Council to make sufficient changes to the hoarding and construction barriers to allow easier access into the market to lessen the effects of the redevelopment on the footfall of the market businesses. Failing this, the Council (as the Freehold owner) to reimburse market traders for lost business by means of rent abatement.

The current hoarding and barriers in place for the City Centre South redevelopment have made accessing the market extremely difficult.

Market businesses are concerned about the effects of these obstructions. We call on the council to reconfigure the barriers (e.g. making paths through fenced areas) to lessen the impact these disruptions are having.

If this is not possible or practical for purposes of the CCS construction, this petition asks the freeholder (CCC) to suspend or lessen rent on traders for the entire period of the disruption (depending on severity of footfall impact) to prevent damage to businesses and possible closures.
