The narrowness of the lanes whilst works are being carried out causes the following safety concerns;
1 OGV1 and OGV2 i.e HGV vehicles have an extremely narrow
distance between each other when passing in different directions
and if are not tight into the kerb on one side or the traffic cones
on the other, often straddle the central 'white lines' to separate
traffic.
2 Residents exiting their driveways need to swing out into the
opposite lane of traffic as the grass verge is raised and cannot be
driven over.
3 Emergency vehicles find it extremely difficult to get through the
traffic in an emergency, particularly fire engines due to the
limited space and congestion. If an ambulance had to stop at any of
the residences, this would cause extremely long tailbacks
travelling Northbound.
4 The additional pollution due to the congestion during the months
of this work could seriously effect residents health along B4110
London Road south.
5 Both cyclists and motorised scooters are using the pathway on the
residential side of the road more frequently. They are often
oblivious of residents exiting their driveways, quite often wearing
headphones, so not able to hear. On the section of road from
Tonbridge Road to the Pumping Station entrance, the majority of the
driveways slope downwards from the path, this makes it extremely
difficult to see anyone travelling at speed along the pathway.
