We the undersigned petition the Council to show solidarity with Palestine. Coventry, is home to a diverse community with a significant number of citizens sympathetic to the ongoing suffering of the Palestinian people. Coventry itself has felt the terrible cost of war, losing the lives of over 1200 civilians during the blitz in 1941. With this in mind, this petition calls upon the council to display the Palestinian flag in solidarity with the Palestinian people at this time of their suffering.
This request is particularly significant in light of the recent ruling by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which recognises the war crimes and acts of genocide being committed in Gaza. Given the severity of these findings, it is essential to demonstrate solidarity with the Palestinian people and reaffirm support for human rights and international law.

Coventry was the UK City of Culture in 2021, a year-long
celebration of the city's arts and culture. Coventry has always
risen like a phoenix from the ashes. The raising of the flag will
not only show solidarity with the people of Palestine but will show
the world that Coventry City is truly the city of peace and
reconciliation.
