Coventry's Living Well with Dementia Strategy: Informal Consultation and Next Steps pdf icon PDF 158 KB

Report of the Executive Director, People

Minutes:

Cabinet Member received a report of the Executive Director, People, which provided an update on current progress of the dementia strategy and outlined the proposed timeline for informal consultation to finalisation of the strategy.

The strategy had been developed by the multi-agency Dementia Strategy Board following a series of engagement exercises with people with dementia, carers, third sector partners and health and social care staff.  The overall vision was for people with dementia and their family members and carers to be supported to live well with the disease.  It was proposed that this would be achieved by changing attitudes towards dementia, people receiving a timely diagnosis and good quality interventions, such as use of assistive technology.

Members were very supportive of the work being done but had concern that issues of the stigma of dementia should be targeted towards all sectors of society during and after the consultation period.

RESOLVED that after due consideration of the report and matters raised at the meeting, the Cabinet Member:

(1)  Endorsed the progress with developing and consulting on the draft strategy.

(2)  Would receive a further update on the strategy following the informal consultation phase.

(3)  Delegated authority to approve the final strategy to the Executive Director, People, in consultation with the Cabinet Member (Health and Adult Services.
