Correspondence and Announcements of the Lord Mayor

Minutes:

The City Council noted the Return of Councillor Gurdev Singh Hayre as the Councillor for Upper Stoke Ward following the by-election held on 19 March, 2020. The Lord Mayor formally welcomed Councillor Hayre to his first meeting.”

Declarations of Interest

Minutes:

There were no declarations of interest.

3.

Election of the Chair of the Council (being the Lord Mayor of the City)

Minutes:

It was moved by Councillor R Lancaster seconded by Councillor J Clifford and supported by Councillor G Ridley, that Councillor Ann Lucas be elected as Chair of the Council (being the Lord Mayor of the City) for the ensuing year.

 

RESOLVED that Councillor Ann Lucas be elected as Chair of the Council for the 2020/21 municipal year, having made the declaration of office prescribed by the Local Government Act 1972 (as amended). 

 

4.

Vote of Thanks to the Retiring Lord Mayor

Minutes:

A vote of thanks for the retiring Lord Mayor, Councillor Linda Bigham, was moved by Councillor G Duggins, seconded by Councillor L Harvard and supported by Councillor G Ridley.

 

Councillor L Bigham responded to the vote of thanks.

 

RESOLVED:

 

(1)  That the warmest thanks of the Council were due and were thereby given to Councillor Linda Bigham for the zeal and impartiality with which he has discharged the arduous duties of the office of Lord Mayor during the year 2019/20; and

 

(2)  That a copy of this resolution, under the common seal, be presented to Councillor Linda Bigham.

 

5.

Election of the Vice-Chair of the Council (being the Deputy Lord Mayor of the City)

Minutes:

It was moved by Councillor L Kelly, seconded by Councillor R Singh and supported by Councillor G Ridley that Councillor John Douglas McNicholas be elected as Vice Chair of the Council (being the Deputy Lord Mayor of the City) for the ensuing year.

 

RESOLVED that Councillor John McNicholas be elected as Vice Chair of the Council for the 2020/21 Municipal Year, having made the declaration of office prescribed by the Local Government Act 1972 (as amended).
