The Lord Mayor welcomed Councillor Seyi Agboola to his first meeting of the City Council following his election as a Binley and Willenhall Ward Councillor on 14 July, 2022.

Councillor S Walsh

The Lord Mayor referred to the sad news that Councillor Seamus Walsh had passed away at the weekend. Seamus had been a Sherbourne Ward Councillor since 2010 and had been re-elected in May this year. He served on both Planning and Licensing and Regulatory Committees and was a member of a number of Scrutiny Boards. Councillor Walsh was Chair of the Sherbourne Ward Forum and had been Chair of the Ethics Committee since 2016.  The Lord Mayor indicated that Seamus will be much missed by the Council and his constituents.

 

Members noted that a letter will be sent from the Lord Mayor and the Leader to Seamus’s family expressing condolences on behalf of the City Council and that there will be an opportunity for Members to pay tribute to Seamus at the next Council meeting.

 

Members observed a Minute’s silence as a mark of respect to Councillor Walsh.

The following Motion Without Notice was moved by Councillor M Mutton and seconded by Councillor G Lloyd:--

 

“That in accordance with the Constitution, in relation to agenda item 3, the Council’s Procedure Rule in relation to length of time of speeches be suspended and also that Honorary Aldermen and Alderwoman to able to speak to the Motion. “

 

RESOLVED that the above Motion Without Notice be unanimously adopted.

To be moved by Councillor G Duggins and seconded by Councillor G Ridley:

 

“This council places on record it's thanks and appreciation to the late

 Councillor John Mutton for his hard work and service to the City

 of Coventry"

The following Motion was moved by Councillor G Duggins and seconded by Councillor G Ridley:-

 

This Council places on record it's thanks and appreciation to the late Councillor John Mutton for his hard work and service to the City of Coventry" 

 

Tributes were paid to Councillor Mutton by Members and Honorary Aldermen.

 

RESOLVED that the above Motion be unanimously adopted.
